About Family Engagement
More than an after school or summer program, our families become critical partners who make our work complete. We actively work together to provide the best for our children every step of the way. Some of the ways our families get involved are:
The DREAM Family Action Councils are two groups of DREAM family leaders, one in East Harlem and one in the South Bronx, who work to ensure that every family at DREAM has a voice in our programs. The Family Action Councils meet once every month. They support DREAM in developing an active and involved family body and also serve as an avenue of communication between families, administration, and program staff. Throughout the year, Family Action Council members develop fun activities, family projects, and fundraising opportunities. Meetings are great places to get the latest school news, provide feedback on important decisions, and take an active role in planning and carrying out events. The Family Action Councils are open to all DREAM families.
DREAM Family special events include Family Orientations and Exhibition Nights.
At Family Orientations, all families are invited to meet program staff prior to the start of each program cycle. Families engage in activities to learn about the fun workshops that DREAM offers and to build relationships with other families.
Exhibition Nights are fun-filled events where REAL Kids families can explore all of the amazing activities that youth experience during a program cycle. From capoeira and theater demonstrations to nutritious recipes, Exhibition Nights are fun for the entire family.
Family workshops are interactive opportunities for families to learn new information and skills, share best practices with others, and form stronger support networks in the school and community. Every year, DREAM offers a variety of workshops based on families’ interests and needs.
DREAM offers classes to build safer, stronger families. The Parenting Journey workshop series is designed to help parents build the inner strength, resources, and social networks necessary for success.
